Voting machines: What to do?

The USACM blog has a nice post covering the July 19 Congressional hearing on "Voting Machines: Will the New Standards and Guidelines Help Prevent Future Problems?" The answer seems to be that Yes, they will help, but not enough; there is wide variation in opinions of what else must be done.
